If you’re set on a calico, you may find yourself paying a bit extra. Calicos are relatively rare in some breeds, for instance. In certain breeds, one pattern may be more expensive than the other. Therefore, your aesthetic preferences are the only things that should determine which pattern you seek out. The only difference between calicos and tabbies is what they look like. They are usually sterile, and in breeds where males are bigger than females, male calicos may be smaller than usual males. Males can only be calico when they accidentally inherit two X genes.
